VA Aid & Attendance Benefits are available to a veteran or widowed spouse of a veteran who meets one of the following conditions:

Do Asset or Income Limitations Apply?

Certain income and asset limitations apply and planning should be completed prior to application for VA benefits.

Assets can be repositioned and income can be offset by "medical" costs.  Medical costs can include non-professional assistance from a family member.

Nevertheless, a single veteran, who served even one day during a qualified war time, may be eligible for up to $1,554 per month ($18,654 per year) to pay for care at home, assisted living, nursing home care or other medical costs.  A married veteran may be eligible for up to $1,842 per month ($22,113 per year).  A widowed spouse may be eligible for up to $998 per month ($11,985 per year).  VA benefits are tax free and do not impact Social Security or other sources of income.

Once awarded Aid & Attendance, a veteran may obtain free medications, medical equipment, incontinence supplies, glasses, and hearing aides from the VA hospital/clinic via U.S. Mail without going to the VA.
